INTRODUCTION
Ife East Area Office Local Government was carved out of the present Ife East Local Government, Oke-Ogbo on April 1 2002 with the headquarters at Oke D.O. Modakeke – Ife. This was as a result of the recommendation of the Presidential Committee on Ife-Modakeke and Ife North Local Government by Commodore O.I. George (rtd) as a temporary measure to stop the protracted communal crisis in the local government area.
The local government is made up of what is historically known as Modakeke Akoraye. It is located in the midst of the defunct Oranmiyan Local Government in Ife land. There are numerous towns and villages in the local government area. The local government comprises three wards of Modakeke Ife. It is to discharge it s constitutional functions within the said three wards. Major inhabitants of the council are the Modakekes who are Oyo Yoruba. Scores of people from other tribes in Nigeria also reside in the area. |
